Puerto Vallarta and Chocolate

Hotel Rosita is one of our favorite hotels in Puerto Vallarta, for its convenient location near the Malecon and El Centro. The four story hotel has a decent swimming pool and nice open air restaurant near the water. Up the hill from it, a several block walk, is a nice Spanish restaurant called Barcelona where we enjoy delicious Sangria and paella. The open air seating and view of the bay make for a enjoyable dining experience.

PuertoVallarta is a lovely city on the ocean with a Malecon (boardwalk) along the shore. The sculptures are fun to look at and a newer one is of a man eating "piedras" or rocks.

The vegetarian restaurant Planeto Vegetariano in El Centro is a bargain for 60 or 65 pesos (less than $6 U.S.) you get a buffet with more vegetarian food than you could eat, there is just too much to sample in the salad department especially. It included beverage and dessert too.

Latest news on cocoa is good news! A flavanol called epicatechin can keep us healthy. Mars candy company has patented methods of processing the cocoa bean to retain the naturally occuring flavanol. The risk of the diseases of cancer, stroke, diabetes, heart disease were reduced to 10% in Kuna people when they drank up to 40 cups of cocoa a week (hmmm yummy how fun).
A quote from the VP of Scientific affairs at Natural Products Association stated there could be a epicatechin deficiency going on. Read this article in today's news about it, and when I checked Mars website it was a little difficult to find info on this news. But I know Mars
owns Dove and their dark chocolate is pretty good tasting and maybe has this epicatechin in it. For more chocolate research studies just go to the the Chocolate Manufacturers Association.

So keep eating chocolate and don't feel guilty, feel good about it. I can't wait to dig into some good recipes as my sister just brought me a whole bunch of various dark chocolate forms such as eating bars and bittersweet chocolate chips for cookies from the states.
Read all about chocolate at this person's website called Exploring Chocolate. Send me any of your great recipes for chocolate concoctions please.

We were able to finally find good eating chocolate here at Sam's Club, but it is made in Mexico and called Turin chocolates, 70% cocoa, individually wrapped pieces. Then it went on sale from 50 pesos to 25 and we bought a bunch of boxes of it. Everyone here gets to try it out, and it if fun to see the Mexican people's reaction when they try it, cause most chocolate here is very different from European chocolate and good chocolate in the states.
